Working From Home Can Be A Challenge

It will be easy the said! It will be fun they said!

Well, I was in for a rude awakening. As we were all thrust into a world, we all wished for, the realities have been a mixture of good and bad.

Some people absolutely thrive in their own bubble and are more productive than ever. However, most of us have found it jarring and far more taxing than we thought it would be. For me, everything felt as if it was one long slog without differentiating between work, home, and play.

It took me a long time to adjust to our new reality, but once I worked out some key fundamentals and accepted the new norm, I found a sudden sense of freedom and my creativity started to flow again. I have found an article which encapsulates most of the tips I focused on to make working from home a breeze. It has worked for me, so I thought I would share this article to assist those that are finding it difficult.

Tip 1: Get up at 7am and get dressed

My Brother gave me some sage advice, as he thrives working from home. He says: Get up at 7am and get dressed.

such a powerful statement that is critical in the success of working from home.

If you just start focusing on this tip, you are moving in the right direction.  Getting up early, shower (if you can do some exercise that is a winner) shower and get dressed into work attire. This habit will change everything and the transition from home into work mode will be seamless.

 

Tip 2: Set a schedule – A daily To-Do List

This one change in the way I run my daily schedule has completely focused me and given me a sense of achievement every day once I see what I have accomplished. This helps me with to stop procrastinating, and I have noticed I do the toughest things first.

 

Tip 3: Set ground rule with your family

As a family we sat down and worked out a schedule that suits all of us. When the children get hoe form school, they have their own working space, so there are no interruptions for all.

It is a rule that we have dinner together at the table, where we catch up on our days and just get to enjoy each other’s company. As a family unit we have all agreed on a routine that works for us, otherwise tensions surface that are not needed in this environment.

 

Tip 4: Take breaks – and take them in its entirety

What works for me is 60 minutes work and a 10 minute break. I have a full hour lunch where I try get out of the house, be it a walk, gym or even just sitting in the garden. It is essential to get away from the screen, so that I can reenergize.

 

Tip 5 : keep a dedicated office space

Not everyone has a spare room to use as an office in their home, but it is essential to arrange a space where you will work from. This will be your workspace, when you are working, you are working.

These 5 tips assisted me greatly to acclimatise to work from home and feel comfortable. I find I am more productive now than ever before, with so many advantages. I do miss the office and the camaraderie, but we have learned how to connect digitally
